Our read on MFIG

ETF.net Research

BThe Motley Fool's stock-picking philosophy, coded into a rules-based index. MFIG is a young US growth fund that follows an innovation screen instead of a manager's hunches, and charges 0.50% for the house view.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks pre-expense total returns that generally correspond to the total return performance of the Motley Fool Innovative Growth Index. It uses a passive indexing approach to track that index.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Rules first: a published index selects holdings with an Innovative Growth Factor Score, so the Fool's growth style shows up as a repeatable screen, not discretion.
  2. 02Plain plumbing: an all-US stock mandate in a standard 1940 Act ETF wrapper, so 1099s rather than K-1s and daily creation and redemption.
  3. 03The portfolio build is the sturdiest part of the package, holding up better against US growth peers than the price tag does.

Worth knowing

  1. 01You pay up for the house view at 0.50%. Broad US growth funds like VUG and SCHG run at a few basis points, a gap that shows up every year.
  2. 02Young and small: it launched in December 2025, and light trading in a small fund can mean wider spreads than the mega-ETFs.
  3. 03Not an income story. The mandate is total return from innovative growth names, and distributions have not been part of the picture.
