Our read on PPLT
BPlatinum in a vault, not a futures ledger. PPLT is a grantor trust that holds the physical metal and tracks its price after a 0.60% fee, and it has been doing that job since 2010.
The Trust is designed to track the price of physical platinum, after deducting its expenses.
Why people hold it
- Owns physical platinum inside a grantor trust instead of futures contracts, so there is no roll schedule sitting between shareholders and the metal's price.
- Tracking is the strong suit. The trust is built to mirror physical platinum after expenses, and it stays very close to that mark.
- A billion-dollar-plus trust that trades actively and has been open since 2010, a long-standing wrapper in a corner of the metals market with few options.
Worth knowing
- The 0.60% fee sits right at the middle of the physical-metals pack, and GraniteShares' PLTM charges 0.50% for exposure to the same metal.
- One metal, full stop. The ride is platinum's alone, without the smoothing of a multi-metal basket like GLTR.
- Bars in a vault throw off no cash. The trust makes no distributions, so the metal's price is the whole story.
