This fund multiplies its index's move each day and resets that multiple daily. Because daily returns compound, its long-run return can differ from the headline multiple.

Our read on PST

ETF.net Research

DMost inverse Treasury funds swing at the 20+ year long bond. PST aims at the belly instead: two times the inverse of the daily move in the ICE U.S. Treasury 7-10 Year Bond Index, reset every single day since 2008.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks daily investment results, before fees and expenses, corresponding to approximately two times the inverse of the daily performance of the ICE U.S. Treasury 7-10 Year Bond Index. It does not seek this -2x target for periods other than a day.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Points at the intermediate curve rather than the long end. Its reference is the ICE U.S. Treasury 7-10 Year Bond Index, while most inverse Treasury peers key off 20+ year bonds.
  2. 02Two times, not three. A milder dose than 3x bear funds like TMV, and less rate sensitivity than the 20+ year shorts TBT and TBF.
  3. 03The leverage lives inside the fund. You buy shares in an ordinary brokerage account instead of running a futures position or a short bond trade yourself.
  4. 04Launched in 2008 and still trading, so it has been through a full round trip of rate cuts and rate hikes.

Worth knowing

  1. 01The daily reset is the whole story. Hold past one day and the result depends on the path rates take, and can differ from -2x the index's move over that stretch.
  2. 02At 1.40% a year, the fee sits above the typical charge in its inverse-Treasury peer group, and it is taken whether rates move or not.
  3. 03Small and lightly traded next to the headline long-bond inverse funds, which can mean wider bid-ask spreads on the way in and out.

This fund targets a multiple of the daily move of its index and resets daily. Hold it longer than one reset and compounding makes the return diverge from that target. In choppy markets it can lose value even when the index ends flat.

How much the fund’s monthly returns vary, scaled to a year.
13.2%
Annualised · 36 months to Aug 2026
How it’s calculated: standard deviation

The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.

How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio

Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.

Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.

Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.

The largest fall from a peak to the low that followed.

How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown

The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.

Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.
