Our read on ROBO
CRobotics as an index, since 2013. ROBO holds roughly 80 automation and robotics names worldwide and tracks the Robo-Stox index it was named for: long-tenured, broadly spread, and priced at the premium end of its group.
The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Robo-Stox Global Robotics and Automation Index. It normally invests at least 80% of total assets in securities of that Index or related depositary receipts.
Why people hold it
- Trading since 2013 and now a billion-dollar-plus fund, with moderate day-to-day volume and one of the smoother execution profiles in the robotics cohort.
- About 80 holdings spread across global markets, one of the better-diversified baskets in its peer group rather than a bet on three or four megacaps.
- The prospectus pins at least 80% of assets to its named index, so you get a published rulebook for what counts as robotics, not a manager's rotating definition.
Worth knowing
- At 0.95% a year, it charges above the robotics-fund median (near 0.65%) and well above leaner builds like BOTT at 0.35% or IBOT at 0.47%.
- One theme, many currencies. Robotics and automation stocks tend to move together, and the global holdings add exchange-rate swings on top.
- Distributions land once or twice a year at most. This is a growth-theme equity basket, not an income holding.

ROBO Risk
- 23.4%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- 0.49
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.
- −43.7%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.
- 1.77
How it’s calculated: beta
The beta figure is supplied by FMP. The comparison index depends on the fund’s broad asset class.
