Our read on SDG

ETF.net Research

BA global stock fund built on one filter: does the business itself serve the UN's Sustainable Development Goals? About 120 companies worldwide, running since 2016, priced below the typical global thematic fund.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks to track an index of global companies aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Charges 0.50% a year, under the median fee for global thematic funds in its peer group.
  2. 02Holdings come from a published index, the MSCI ACWI Sustainable Development Index, rather than a manager's judgement call. The rulebook is public.ishares.com
  3. 03About 120 names across global markets, concentrated enough that the theme actually shows up in the portfolio instead of getting diluted.
  4. 04Live since 2016 on BlackRock's iShares platform, a long track record for a theme fund, and it sits in the upper half of its global thematic cohort.

Worth knowing

  1. 01Thinly traded, so spreads can run wider than on broad index funds and larger orders take more care to fill.
  2. 02The SDG alignment screens leave out large chunks of the world market, so results can drift well away from a plain global index.ishares.com
  3. 03Cheaper sustainability-tilted options share the cohort: Invesco's KLMT runs 0.10%.
