Our read on SNSR

ETF.net Research

CThe ticker is the thesis: sensors. SNSR has tracked a single Internet of Things index since 2016, buying the roughly 70 developed-market names that build the chips, sensors and connected hardware behind smart everything.

Stated mandate

The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Indxx Global Internet of Things Thematic Index. It invests at least 80% of assets in securities represented by that index and targets companies facilitating the Internet of Things.

Why people hold it

  1. 01A written mandate, not a hunch: at least 80% of assets sit in the Indxx Global Internet of Things Thematic Index, aimed at companies that facilitate the Internet of Things.assets.globalxetfs.com
  2. 02Running since 2016, which makes it one of the longer-tenured pure-play theme funds. You can study how connected-device stocks actually behaved, not a backtest.
  3. 03About 70 developed-market stocks means the theme actually shows up in returns, instead of being diluted inside a broad tech index.

Worth knowing

  1. 01The 0.68% expense ratio runs above the median for global thematic ETFs, and some peers charge far less (KLMT at 0.10%, IQSZ at 0.19%) for broader global baskets.
  2. 02A mid-sized fund that trades lighter than the headline thematic names, so spreads and order type matter more than they would in a giant.
  3. 03Income is not the design here: distributions come on an annual or semiannual schedule, and the concentrated basket rides hardware and semiconductor sentiment.
