Our read on METV
CLaunched in 2021 with an index built by Matthew Ball's research group, METV is the metaverse theme in its original form: roughly 50 globally listed companies spanning chips, networks, virtual worlds and payments.
The fund seeks to track the Ball Metaverse Index before fees and expenses by investing primarily in globally listed companies whose activities, products, services, or technologies enable the Metaverse.
Why people hold it
- The Ball Metaverse Index sorts holdings into seven layers of the theme: compute, networking, virtual platforms, interchange standards, payments, content and hardware.roundhillinvestments.com
- Roundhill cut the management fee from 0.75% to 0.59% in 2022, and that one unified fee covers the fund's operating costs.roundhillinvestments.com
- Global by mandate, not US tech by default: the index draws on companies listed worldwide whose products and technologies enable the metaverse.
Worth knowing
- At 0.59%, it prices a touch above the typical global thematic fund. That is what a hand-built, committee-selected niche index costs.
- About 50 stocks on one narrow theme, and it has ranked among the more volatile funds in its global thematic group.
- The index methodology was widened to allow ETFs holding bitcoin or ether as eligible components, so digital asset swings can reach an equity fund.roundhillinvestments.com
