Our read on THD

ETF.net Research

CSince 2008, THD has been the single-ticker route into Thai stocks from a US brokerage account. Its MSCI index is all-cap, reaching roughly 99% of Thailand's free float, so mid and small caps ride along with the giants.

Stated mandate

The fund seeks to track an index made up of Thai equities, providing targeted exposure to companies in Thailand.

Why people hold it

  1. 01All-cap by design: large, mid and small Thai names, covering roughly 99% of the market's free float instead of a blue-chip slice.msci.com
  2. 02Trading since 2008 on the iShares platform, it is the long-standing way to hold a basket of Thai equities without opening a foreign account.ishares.com
  3. 03The index applies the US tax code's fund diversification limits, so no single Thai company can dominate it. Roughly 80 holdings spread the exposure.msci.com

Worth knowing

  1. 010.59% a year, right at the median for single-country emerging-market funds. Cheaper wrappers exist in the group (FLMX charges 0.19%), just not for Thailand.
  2. 02One country, one currency. Baht moves and Thailand-specific news land straight in the price, with no other market in the basket to offset them.ishares.com
  3. 03Distributions come once or twice a year rather than monthly, so any income arrives in lumps.
