Our read on XRLX

ETF.net Research

CA conservative fund with a momentum engine. XRLX buys other ETFs and rotates toward whatever has been leading, sitting at the cautious end of the FundX lineup. It reached the market in 2023, when a long-running mutual fund converted.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation and may provide a low level of current income intended to reduce portfolio volatility.

Why people hold it

  1. 01The "Upgrading" engine: it ranks funds on recent performance and rotates into the leaders, so the mix moves with markets instead of sitting in a fixed 60/40.fundxetfs.comsec.gov
  2. 02One ticker buys a whole stack of underlying stock and bond ETFs, with the shifting between them handled for you.fundxetfs.com
  3. 03Runs true to the objective printed in its prospectus: growth first, a modest income stream (paid once or twice a year), volatility kept in check.
  4. 04Not a new idea in a new wrapper. It ran for years as the FundX Conservative Upgrader mutual fund before converting to an ETF in 2023.sec.gov

Worth knowing

  1. 01The fee is 1.23% against a 0.45% peer median, and as an ETF of ETFs you also bear the underlying funds' costs. BLUI (0.25%) and CGMS (0.39%) charge far less.fundxetfs.com
  2. 02Chasing recent leaders can mean buying just after a brief surge that fades. The fund's own materials name that risk.fundxetfs.com
  3. 03Thinly traded. Limit orders and a glance at the spread matter more here than with a giant fund.
