PFOECPathfinder Focused Opportunities ETF

In short

AVTM Avantis' one-ticket world stock market: roughly 1,700 holdings, U.S. names owned directly and the overseas sleeves held through sister Avantis funds, all tilted toward cheaper, more profitable companies.

PFOE Concentration is the whole idea: 15 to 30 US stocks the adviser judges high quality with long growth runways, at 0.59% a year. A late-2025 launch whose outcome rides on individual picks rather than index exposure.

Stated mandate

AVTM Seeks long-term capital appreciation through a broadly diversified total-market equity allocation, using individual securities and Avantis ETFs while emphasizing securities expected to offer higher returns or better risk characteristics than a passive market-capitalization-weighted index.

PFOE The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It is actively managed and normally invests in 15–30 equity securities of companies the Adviser considers high quality with significant long-term growth potential.

Why people hold it

  • AVTM Costs 0.22% net of a fee waiver (0.23% gross), a notch under stablemate AVGE at 0.23% and below the typical fee in its category.
  • Owns U.S. companies directly rather than only stacking funds, then uses Avantis ETFs for developed and emerging markets abroad. One ticket, all market caps.sec.gov
  • Benchmarked to 85% Russell 3000 and 15% MSCI ACWI ex-US IMI: a deliberately U.S.-heavy world portfolio, not a global cap-weight split.avantisinvestors.com
  • One of the stronger builds in a crowded field of actively managed global equity funds.
  • PFOE Actually concentrated. The mandate is normally 15 to 30 US equities, so each holding carries real weight instead of being diluted into a quasi-index.
  • At 0.59% a year it sits below the median fee for active US equity ETFs, which is not typical for a small, high-conviction shop.
  • The advertised screen leans on growth, profitability and quality: compounders with long runways, not bargain-bin turnarounds.
  • Trades moderately rather than thinly, which is worth something in a fund still building its asset base.

Worth knowing

  • AVTM Avantis flags that much of the starting portfolio sits on a low tax basis, so the fund may realize and distribute more capital gains than other ETFs.avantisinvestors.com
  • Trades thinly next to the index giants in its category, so spreads and order size matter more here.
  • Launched January 2026, so the history is short, and with no index to follow the portfolio reflects Avantis' own valuation and profitability tilts.sec.gov
  • PFOE A 15 to 30 stock book cuts both ways. One holding's bad quarter lands on the whole portfolio with nothing to cushion it.
  • Launched at the end of 2025 with no index behind it, so there is little history and no benchmark rulebook to check the manager against.
  • Systematic rivals cost far less (DFAU at 0.12%, AVLC at 0.15%). The 0.59% here buys human stock selection, not plain market exposure.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
