BSJVCInvesco BulletShares 2031 High Yield Corporate Bond ETF

IBHGAiShares iBonds 2027 Term High Yield and Income ETF

In short

BSJV A junk-bond fund with a calendar date attached: it tracks an index of U.S. high-yield corporate bonds all maturing in 2031, so it behaves like one rung of a bond ladder in ETF form.

IBHG Most target-maturity bond ETFs stick to Treasuries and investment grade. IBHG runs the same ladder-rung playbook in high yield: a basket of dollar-denominated junk and other income bonds all maturing in 2027.

Stated mandate

BSJV The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the performance of an index representing U.S.-dollar-denominated high-yield corporate bonds with effective maturities in 2031.

IBHG The fund seeks to track an index of U.S.-dollar-denominated, high-yield and other income-generating corporate bonds maturing in 2027.

Why people hold it

  • BSJV Every bond in the index has an effective maturity in 2031, so you get a defined-maturity rung instead of a portfolio that rolls forever.
  • Spreads high-yield credit risk across a couple hundred bonds rather than a handful of issuers, and pays distributions monthly.
  • Part of Invesco's BulletShares lineup, whose investment-grade rungs (BSCT, BSCU) rank among the strongest implementations in the target-maturity group.
  • IBHG A rare rung: it tracks the Bloomberg 2027 Term High Yield and Income Index, so you get a dated high yield slice instead of a bond fund that rolls its maturities forever.
  • The 2027 end date sits in the mandate itself, which is what makes ladder-building possible: stack terms, know when each rung comes due.
  • Income lands monthly, and credit risk is spread across roughly 90 bonds rather than a handful of names.

Worth knowing

  • BSJV At 0.42%, the fee sits well above the cheapest rungs in this category, where Vanguard and iShares versions charge under a tenth of a percent.
  • Thinly traded, so bid-ask spreads can be wider than on the big index funds. Limit orders matter more here.
  • High-yield issuers can default, so the 2031 end date sets the timeline, not the payout.
  • IBHG It charges 0.35% a year against a target-maturity cohort that typically runs near 0.10%. High yield credit work costs more than buying Treasuries.
  • High yield means issuer default and downgrade risk, a different animal from the Treasury and investment-grade rungs of the same shelf (IBTJ, IBDU).
  • The clock cuts both ways. As 2027 approaches the portfolio shortens and the fund is built to wind down, not to keep running.
