DFAUADimensional US Core Equity Market ETF

OALCBOneAscent Large Cap Core ETF

In short

DFAU Active management priced like an index fund. Dimensional spreads across roughly 2,400 US stocks, then tilts the weights toward value, profitability and momentum instead of simply mirroring the Russell 3000.

OALC A values-screened cousin of the S&P 500. OneAscent cuts abortifacients, addictive products, predatory lenders and human-rights offenders, then optimizes what's left to stay close to the index. Faith-based filter, plain core shape.

Stated mandate

DFAU Seeks long-term capital appreciation. It uses an integrated research, portfolio-design, management, and trading process to build a broadly diversified portfolio of U.S. companies while balancing long-term return drivers, risk, shorter-term considerations, and trading costs.

OALC The Fund seeks capital appreciation.

Why people hold it

  • DFAU Charges 0.12% a year, well under the 0.65% median for active US equity funds and the cheapest of the top-graded names in its group (AVLC, DFAC, FELC).
  • Holds roughly 2,400 US companies, so no single name steers the fund. Whole-market coverage, not a concentrated bet.
  • Active without the stock-picking drama: it leans weights toward value, profitability and momentum, using the Russell 3000 as its reference point rather than a rigid rulebook.
  • A multi-billion-dollar fund that trades actively, and one of the strongest overall implementations in its active US equity peer group.
  • OALC 0.49% net of a waiver through December 31, 2026 (0.58% gross), below the category median fee, which is unusual for a screened, actively managed portfolio.
  • The exclusion list lives in the prospectus: abortifacients, adult entertainment, gambling, tobacco, alcohol, cannabis, predatory lending, human rights violations.sec.gov
  • Core shape, not a statement piece: US large caps above $5 billion at purchase, at least 80% of assets there, optimized to keep the gap to the target index small.sec.govoneascent.com
  • Trading since 2021 and now a few hundred million dollars in size, so there is real operating history here, not a launch-week story.

Worth knowing

  • DFAU Those tilts cut both ways: results can drift from a plain Russell 3000 fund for long stretches, in either direction.
  • No published index behind it. The trade-off for flexibility is that you're buying Dimensional's process, not a public set of rules you can check line by line.
  • Distributions land quarterly, not monthly, and the mandate is long-term capital appreciation rather than income.
  • OALC Unscreened core beta is cheaper: AVLC charges 0.15%, and TACU's fee is waived to zero through January 30, 2027. The screen is what the extra buys.
  • Thinly traded next to the giant large-cap funds, so bid-ask spreads can run wider and larger orders can move the price.
  • Dropping whole industries means it will not mirror the index name for name, and the optimization can land results ahead of or behind the benchmark in any stretch.sec.govoneascent.com
