DOLBWisdomTree True Developed International Fund

VYMIAVanguard International High Dividend Yield ETF

In short

DOL The 2006-vintage WisdomTree international dividend fund, rebranded in 2025 with a wider map: its index now treats Korea, Taiwan and Poland as developed, and weights holdings by the cash dividends companies pay rather than by market cap.

VYMI Most international dividend funds hold a hundred-odd developed-market names. VYMI casts a far wider net: roughly 1,600 high-yielders across developed and emerging markets outside the US, at seven basis points.

Stated mandate

DOL The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the WisdomTree True Developed International Index. It uses passive indexing and generally representative sampling.

VYMI VYMI seeks to track the FTSE All-World ex US High Dividend Yield Index through passive sampling, targeting international stocks forecast to have above-average dividend yields.

Why people hold it

  • DOL Dividend-weighted, not cap-weighted: position sizes come from the cash dividends companies actually pay, so weight follows payouts rather than share prices.wisdomtree.comwisdomtree.com 2
  • Wider developed map than most rivals. Korea, Taiwan and Poland count as developed here, putting names like TSMC and Samsung inside a developed ex-US sleeve.wisdomtree.com
  • Passively run since 2006 on representative sampling, and it has tracked its index closely, placing it in the upper half of its international dividend peer group.
  • Roughly 300 large dividend payers, all screened for an actual cash payout, with distributions passed along quarterly.wisdomtree.com
  • VYMI 0.07% a year, a fraction of the typical international dividend fund's fee and a shade under screened rivals like SCHY (0.08%) and IGRO (0.15%).
  • Roughly 1,600 stocks across developed and emerging markets ex-US, so no single name, sector or country carries the income load.vanguard.com
  • Samples the FTSE All-World ex US High Dividend Yield Index and has stayed unusually close to it, among the tightest trackers in its peer group.
  • Live since 2016, now a multi-billion-dollar fund that trades actively, and it pays out quarterly.

Worth knowing

  • DOL At 0.48% it sits just under the peer median, but index rivals go far cheaper: VYMI charges 0.07% and SCHY 0.08%.
  • Trades lighter than the category's biggest funds, which can mean wider bid-ask spreads at the moment you trade.
  • Ex-U.S. and ex-Canada by design, and every holding must pay a dividend, so non-payers and Canadian blue chips are absent from the lineup.wisdomtree.com
  • VYMI No currency hedge. Dividends and prices arrive in foreign currencies, and exchange-rate swings show up in dollar results either way.vanguard.com
  • The emerging-market sleeve adds political, liquidity and currency risk that developed-only dividend funds sidestep.vanguard.com
  • Screening on forecast yield tilts toward value and cyclical names, a different ride than dividend-growth peers like VIGI and IGRO.
