FLCAAFranklin FTSE Canada ETF

GLCRFGlacierShares Nasdaq Iceland ETF

In short

FLCA Canada in one ticker, at index-fund pricing. FLCA tracks the FTSE Canada Capped Index, about 50 large- and mid-cap Canadian names, for 0.09% a year.

GLCR Iceland, in one ticker. GLCR tracks a MarketVector index of Icelandic companies and firms tied to Iceland's economy, roughly 30 names deep, wrapped in a plain-vanilla US ETF that launched in 2025.

Stated mandate

FLCA The fund seeks to track the FTSE Canada Capped Index, which measures the performance of Canadian large- and mid-capitalization stocks.

GLCR GLCR seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the total return of an index covering equity securities of Icelandic companies and companies related to Iceland’s economy.

Why people hold it

  • FLCA 0.09% a year against a 0.45% median for index-tracking ETFs. On plain-vanilla country exposure, the fee gap is most of the story.
  • The mandate is refreshingly plain: the FTSE Canada Capped Index, Canadian large and mid caps, no factor tilts, no derivatives overlay.
  • Live since 2017 and one of the stronger implementations in a crowded field of index trackers.
  • GLCR Pure single-country Iceland equity exposure through a rules-based index (MarketVector Iceland Global Total Return Net), not a manager's stock picks.
  • The mandate reaches past domicile: the index covers Icelandic companies plus companies tied to Iceland's economy, which widens a very shallow home market.
  • Ordinary 1940 Act fund structure holding stocks, so it trades and reports like any other equity ETF (no partnership wrapper, no derivatives sleeve).

Worth knowing

  • FLCA About 50 stocks in one country. That is a targeted slice of the world, not a diversified core.
  • Mid-sized and moderately traded, so limit orders are the sane way in and out.
  • Distributions arrive once or twice a year rather than quarterly, which matters if you spend the income.
  • GLCR At 0.95% a year, the fee runs close to double the median for single-country developed-market ETFs, the price of reaching a market nobody else indexes.
  • Small asset base and light trading. Spreads can be wider than in the big country funds like EWC or EWU, so how you enter matters more than usual.
  • About 30 holdings in one small economy. Concentration cuts both ways, and the 2025 launch means no record across a full market cycle yet.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
