Our read on each fund
IBIMC
VTIPA
In short
IBIM A bond-ladder rung with inflation protection built in. IBIM tracks an index of Treasury TIPS maturing in 2036, giving the sleeve a defined end date instead of a fund that rolls its bonds forever.
VTIP Inflation protection without the long-bond whiplash. VTIP holds only Treasury TIPS maturing inside five years, so CPI does most of the driving and rate swings do less of it, for three basis points a year.
Stated mandate
IBIM The fund seeks to track an index of U.S. Treasury Inflation-Protected Securities (TIPS) maturing in 2036. It is designed to provide inflation protection, support bond-ladder construction, and manage interest-rate risk with a defined maturity.
VTIP Tracks a benchmark measuring the investment return of U.S. Treasury inflation-protected public obligations with remaining maturities under five years.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
