IBTKAiShares iBonds Dec 2030 Term Treasury ETF

In short

IBTH Most bond ETFs roll on forever. This one is built to end: a basket of U.S. Treasuries clustered around a December 2027 maturity, wrapped in one ticker at a bottom-tier fee. A ladder rung you can buy in a single click.

IBTK A single rung of a Treasury ladder in ETF form: IBTK owns only U.S. government bonds maturing in 2030, so it behaves more like one bond with an end date than an open-ended bond fund.

Stated mandate

IBTH The Fund seeks to track the investment results of an index composed of U.S. Treasury bonds.

IBTK The fund seeks to follow an index made up of U.S. Treasury bonds that mature in 2030.

Why people hold it

  • IBTH Costs 0.07% a year against a 0.10% median for target-maturity bond funds. On Treasuries, where the coupon does the work, fee drag is most of what you control.
  • A defined end date, which a standard bond fund cannot offer. It holds Treasuries maturing around December 2027, so interest-rate sensitivity winds down as that date approaches.
  • U.S. Treasury paper only, so no corporate issuer risk in the basket, unlike the corporate-bond rungs of the same family (IBDU) or Invesco's BulletShares (BSCT).
  • Running since 2020, pays monthly, and ranks as one of the stronger builds in the target-maturity bond group.
  • IBTK Charges 0.07% a year against a 0.10% median for target-maturity bond funds. Cheap matters most where the underlying asset is plain Treasuries.
  • Tracks the ICE 2030 Maturity US Treasury Index tightly, one of the cleaner implementations among the 126 target-maturity funds we cover.
  • U.S. Treasuries only. No corporate credit in the basket, so what you get is government paper with a 2030 finish line.
  • One rung in a stackable set: sibling IBTJ does the same job for 2029 at the same 0.07% fee, letting maturities be laddered year by year.

Worth knowing

  • IBTH A share is not a bond. The wind-up value follows the market value of the underlying Treasuries, not a fixed face amount you can pencil in.
  • Narrow by design: roughly 50 Treasuries in one maturity window, so it moves with a single slice of the yield curve rather than the whole bond market.
  • Treasury credit means no corporate spread in the yield, and the fund has a finite life, so it works as a dated tool rather than a permanent core sleeve.
  • IBTK Built around one date. As 2030 approaches the bonds' remaining life shortens, so rate sensitivity fades and the fund starts acting like short-term paper.
  • Before that date it still moves with rates. A defined maturity is not a defined price along the way.
  • Moderately traded rather than heavily traded, a concentrated slice of the Treasury curve held by a couple dozen issues.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
