In short

PAPI Parametric's take on covered-call income: an actively managed dividend-stock portfolio with an S&P 500 options overlay bolted on, paying monthly, at a fee far below what this corner of the market usually charges.

PEPS Active management at index-fund pricing. PEPS holds a U.S. large-cap base, then writes S&P 500 calls against offsetting long exposure: a beta-neutral overlay built to add return rather than swap upside for income.

Stated mandate

PAPI Seeks consistent monthly income while preserving prospects for capital appreciation. It is actively managed and combines a dividend-paying equity portfolio with an option-writing overlay.

PEPS The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It is actively managed, using a U.S. large-cap equity base and beta-neutral call overwriting on the S&P 500 with offsetting long exposure to seek incremental total return.

Why people hold it

  • PAPI Cheap seat in an expensive neighborhood. At 0.29% a year, it undercuts the typical options-income fund by a wide margin.
  • Undercuts even the well-built names it competes with: DIVO (0.56%), TCAL (0.34%) and ROCY (0.35%) all charge more for a similar job.
  • Two engines, not one: dividend-paying US stocks for the base, an option-writing overlay tied to the S&P 500 for the premium. Income is paid monthly.
  • Eaton Vance and Parametric are long-standing names in options overlays, and the build here rates among the stronger ones in its peer group.
  • PEPS 0.10% is index-fund pricing for an actively managed strategy. Even the cheap, well-regarded active peers cost more: DFAU at 0.12%, FELC at 0.18%.
  • Not a covered-call fund. The sold S&P 500 calls are paired with offsetting long exposure, so the overlay seeks incremental total return instead of capping upside.
  • Ordinary 1940 Act ETF wrapper, U.S. large-cap equity, distributions paid quarterly. The complexity lives in the overlay, not the tax paperwork.
  • Cost is the standout: the typical active U.S. equity ETF in this group charges several times what PEPS does, and fee drag is the one input you know in advance.

Worth knowing

  • PAPI The prospectus flags that distributions can include return of capital, meaning part of a monthly payment may be your own money coming back.
  • Writing calls is a trade: premium income now in exchange for giving up some of the upside when the market runs hard.
  • No declared target payout rate, and the fund launched in 2023, so the record is short by design.
  • PEPS Launched in November 2024. The overlay has not yet run through a full market cycle, so there is limited history to judge it on.
  • A small, thinly traded fund. Bid-ask spreads can run wider than a mega-cap index ETF's, which shows up most on larger orders.
  • The options leg adds moving parts: short index calls lose value in a sharp rally, and the offsetting long exposure is what has to make that back.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
