SNPEAXtrackers S&P 500 Scored & Screened ETF

In short

RSPE Most ESG index funds still let a handful of mega-caps run the show. RSPE screens the S&P 500 for ESG leaders and then flattens the weights, so roughly 180 names each carry similar heft.

SNPE The S&P 500 with roughly 200 names screened out, for 0.10% a year. SNPE keeps the plumbing of a plain core index fund and lets S&P's rules, not a stock picker, decide who stays in the basket.

Stated mandate

RSPE The fund seeks to track the S&P 500 Equal Weight ESG Leaders Select Index and generally invests at least 90% of assets in securities comprising that index.

SNPE The fund seeks investment results that generally correspond, before fees and expenses, to the performance of its underlying index.

Why people hold it

  • RSPE Equal weighting is the whole point: rather than a few mega-caps steering the portfolio, roughly 180 ESG-screened S&P 500 names each carry similar weight.
  • At 0.20% a year it comes in under the typical fund in its ESG peer group, which is unusual for a strategy that isn't plain cap-weighted.
  • The mandate is narrow and closely followed: at least 90% of assets in index constituents, and it hugs its benchmark about as tightly as anything in its peer group.
  • SNPE A 0.10% expense ratio puts it in the cheap seats of the screened-index crowd, alongside XVV (0.08%) and ESGV (0.09%) and well under the group's typical fee.
  • Plain index plumbing: it aims to match the S&P 500 Scored & Screened Index before fees, and it has hugged that mandate closely.
  • Roughly 300 stocks, so the screen actually bites. Around 200 S&P 500 members are cut outright rather than quietly trimmed.
  • A multi-billion-dollar Xtrackers fund running since 2019 with steady daily volume and quarterly payouts. Not a thin, untested launch.

Worth knowing

  • RSPE The big cap-weighted ESG index funds cost less: XVV at 0.08%, SNPE and EFIV at 0.10%. Equal weighting carries a price premium here.
  • A smaller, thinly traded fund next to the household-name ESG ETFs, so bid-ask spreads can run wider, especially in fast markets.
  • Equal weights plus ESG screens leave a portfolio that looks quite different from the cap-weighted S&P 500, so its behavior can diverge from the headline index.
  • SNPE Cutting ~200 names concentrates what's left. The megacap leaders of the parent index end up carrying even more weight here.
  • The screens are S&P's, not yours. They are rules-based and reapplied at each rebalance, so the roster can shift without warning.
  • Not the outright cheapest option in the group: XVV and ESGV shave a basis point or two off the fee.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
