TECYFGraniteShares YieldBOOST Technology ETF

XLEIBState Street Energy Select Sector SPDR Premium Income ETF

In short

TECY TECY owns no tech stocks. It sells put spreads on a 3x leveraged tech ETF, harvesting the fat premiums leverage creates, aiming for triple the option income of the plain sector index. Upside is capped by design.

XLEI State Street's 1998-vintage energy sector fund, wrapped in a call-writing overlay. Same oil and gas majors, monthly income from selling options against them, minus some of the upside when crude runs.

Stated mandate

TECY TECY seeks income from options strategies, mainly by selling puts on leveraged ETFs that track the 3x Long Technology Daily ETF.

XLEI The fund seeks current income while preserving prospects for long-term capital growth by investing in an energy-sector ETF and selling call options on it to generate additional premium income.

Why people hold it

  • TECY The engine: options on a 3x leveraged tech ETF carry far richer premiums, so the fund targets 3x the income of writing options on the Technology Select Sector Index itself.graniteshares.com
  • The leverage sits in the ETF whose options it sells, not in TECY's own book. The fund itself does not borrow or lever its portfolio.graniteshares.com
  • A floor is built into the trade: sell a near-the-money put, buy a further out-of-the-money put. The short leg's loss is bounded, not open-ended.graniteshares.com
  • Runs an options-desk strategy inside a fund wrapper and pays the premium out on a recurring schedule rather than reinvesting it.graniteshares.com
  • XLEI Underlying is the original energy sector SPDR, trading since 1998: market-cap-weighted S&P 500 oil, gas and services names. No stock picking, just an overlay on a known quantity.stockanalysis.com
  • Pays monthly, and the mandate is written to seek income while preserving prospects for long-term growth rather than sell away all the upside.ssga.com
  • Calls are written on the sector ETF itself, not dozens of single stocks, so the overlay runs off one liquid options chain.ssga.com
  • The 0.35% fee sits right at the median for sector covered-call funds, and the build stands among the stronger ones in that peer group.

Worth knowing

  • TECY Costs 1.07% a year, about triple the 0.35% median for sector options-income funds and the 0.35% State Street charges on XLVI and XLUI.
  • Gains are capped: the secondary objective is leveraged-ETF exposure subject to a cap, so a big tech run is only partly captured while drawdowns reference a 3x product.graniteshares.com
  • Launched in 2026 with a small asset base and light trading, so spreads can run wider than in the established sector income funds.
  • XLEI Written calls cap the rally: above the strike, further gains go to the option buyer and the fund keeps the premium instead.ssga.com
  • One narrow sector, market-cap weighted, so the integrated majors dominate. Nothing inside cushions a broad crude selloff.stockanalysis.com
  • A 2025 launch, so there is no record through a full energy cycle yet, and it trades lightly next to the sector fund it holds.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
