Our read on each fund
TIPBB
VTIPA
In short
TIPB Most target-maturity bond ETFs ladder nominal bonds and pay fixed coupons. This one holds U.S. Treasury inflation-protected securities and makes periodic inflation-linked payouts of income and, at times, principal, winding down through 2035.
VTIP Inflation protection without the long-bond whiplash. VTIP holds only Treasury TIPS maturing inside five years, so CPI does most of the driving and rate swings do less of it, for three basis points a year.
Stated mandate
TIPB The Fund seeks periodic inflation-linked distributions from U.S. Treasury Inflation Protected Securities, consisting of income and/or principal through 2035.
VTIP Tracks a benchmark measuring the investment return of U.S. Treasury inflation-protected public obligations with remaining maturities under five years.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
