Our read on BAMB
DA 2023-vintage intermediate bond fund with one stated job: current income. The story is the sticker. It charges 1.04% a year in the most commoditized corner of the market, where the index giants work for pennies.
The Fund seeks to provide current income.
Why people hold it
- Simple mandate, plainly stated: current income from US bonds inside a standard 1940 Act fund. What the portfolio holds lines up closely with what the prospectus says it does.
- Income arrives quarterly, a steady calendar rhythm rather than unpredictable lumps.
- Live since 2023 and past the seed-capital stage, with a real shareholder base rather than a launch balance sitting on the books.
Worth knowing
- Cost is the trade-off: 1.04% a year, while core bond index rivals such as BND, SPAB and SCHZ charge 0.03%. That gap comes out of income every year.
- Thinly traded, so the gap between bid and ask can add to the cost of getting in and out.
- In a crowded field of nearly 200 core bond funds, it sits in the lower half, where cheap, broad index trackers set the bar.

BAMB Risk
- 3.7%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- −0.26

- −4.5%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
