Our read on BRIF

ETF.net Research

CTwo screens, one portfolio: BRIF hunts US large caps at a reasonable price, then filters every name through a Christian values test that bars tobacco, gambling and pornography.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It is actively managed and invests primarily in U.S. large-cap equities through a proprietary process combining quantitative screening with fundamental, qualitative, valuation, and technical analysis.

Why people hold it

  1. 01The "Bright Score" does double duty: quantitative screening plus fundamental, valuation and technical work, then a values check against third-party lists of flagged companies.prnewswire.commutualfunds.com
  2. 02At 0.65%, the fee lands right at the median for actively managed US equity ETFs, so the stock picking and the faith screen are not priced at a premium to the typical active peer.
  3. 03Risk has been its steadiest trait: volatility and drawdowns have run mild for a focused active portfolio, and it sits in the upper half of its active US equity peer group.
  4. 04Growth at a reasonable price is the stated style, and the manager is unconstrained by an index, free to hold only the names that clear both the numbers test and the values test.faithinvestorservices.com

Worth knowing

  1. 01Launched in December 2024 and still thinly traded, so there is a short record to judge and spreads can run wider than at larger, busier funds.
  2. 02Index-tracking core rivals cost a fraction of this: DFAU charges 0.12% and AVLC 0.15%. Active management and the values work carry a real price tag.
  3. 03The screen rules out whole industries (alcohol, tobacco, gambling and more) and the book is focused, so results can drift well away from a broad large-cap index.mutualfunds.comfaithinvestorservices.com
