Our read on BTGD
CThe name is the whole strategy: one share built to carry a full slug of bitcoin and a full slug of gold at the same time, assembled from futures and pooled funds rather than a spot pile.
The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation through an actively managed strategy combining bitcoin and gold exposures, obtained through U.S.-listed futures contracts and pooled investment vehicles.
Why people hold it
- Runs at 0.99% a year, below the typical fee in its leveraged-bull peer group.
- Two hard-money exposures ride in one ticker, so cash is not split between a separate bitcoin fund and a separate gold fund.
- Actively managed, but housed in a standard 1940 Act ETF wrapper, the same plumbing as a plain index fund.
Worth knowing
- Stacking cuts both ways. When bitcoin and gold sell off together, both sleeves land at once, which is why it sits in the leveraged-bull cohort.
- Trades lightly next to cohort heavyweights like FAS and QLD, so spreads can be wider and order type matters more.
- Launched in 2024, so the record is short and has not yet spanned a full market cycle.
