Our read on CSD
BCorporate castoffs, packaged. CSD owns US companies cut loose from bigger parents within the last four years, a spin-off pure play it has run since 2006 while most of its peer group chases IPOs and new issues.
The fund seeks exposure to companies spun off from parent companies by tracking the S&P U.S. Spin-Off Index, investing at least 90% of assets in index securities or depositary receipts.
Why people hold it
- A genuine spin-off portfolio: the index takes US companies spun off from a larger parent in the past four years, screened to a $1 billion float-adjusted market cap floor.invesco.cominvesco.com
- Launched in 2006, a long tenure in a corner of the market where thematic launches come and go.
- Fund and index rebalance monthly, so fresh spin-offs rotate in and four-year-olds age out without you tracking corporate breakups yourself.invesco.com
- The 0.67% fee runs a touch under the typical IPO-and-new-issue peer such as FPXI, and the fund sits in the upper tier of that group on our review.
Worth knowing
- Non-diversified by design, with roughly 30 names. Single stocks swing this fund far harder than they would a broad market index.invesco.com
- Thinly traded next to mainstream index funds, so bid-ask spreads are a bigger part of the round-trip cost.
- At 0.67% a year, you are paying niche-screen prices. That is the trade for the spin-off filter rather than plain market exposure.
