Our read on DUSB
ADimensional took its systematic, research-driven playbook to the parking-lot end of the bond market in 2023: a roughly 400-bond ultrashort fund at 0.15% a year, run to maximize total return rather than hug an index.
The fund seeks to maximize total returns, consisting of income and capital appreciation. It generally invests in investment-grade fixed-income securities, usually maturing within one year, while maintaining a weighted average maturity of no more than one year.
Why people hold it
- Charges 0.15% a year, below the median for ultrashort bond ETFs and level with what SHV and PULS cost.
- No index to track. The stated mandate is to maximize total returns, giving managers room to work inside the ultrashort band.
- Spreads the money across about 400 bonds, so no single issuer carries much of the load.
- Pays monthly, holds billions in assets, and sees steady enough volume to trade without drama. One of the stronger builds among ultrashort bond ETFs.
Worth knowing
- Cheaper shelf-mates exist: VUSB runs 0.10% for a similar ultrashort job.
- Launched in 2023, so its live record is short next to ultrashort funds that have traded through more rate cycles.
- It is a bond ETF, not a money market fund. The share price floats and the monthly income moves with short-term rates.

- −0.3%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
