Our read on EVUS
AMost ESG funds hand you the whole market with the worst offenders trimmed. EVUS takes the value slice instead: roughly 220 cheaper-looking US large and mid caps, ESG-screened and re-weighted, for 0.18% a year.
The Fund tracks an index of U.S. large- and mid-capitalization equities selected for value characteristics and positive ESG characteristics, with risk and return characteristics similar to the MSCI USA Value Index.
Why people hold it
- Rare combo: the ESG screen is applied inside the value sleeve rather than across the whole market, via MSCI's USA Value Extended ESG Focus Index.
- Cheap for the niche: 0.18% a year against a 0.25% median in its ESG-values peer group.
- The mandate is literal. It is built to keep risk and return close to the MSCI USA Value Index, and it reads as one of the more faithful implementations in its peer group.
- Straightforward plumbing: about 220 US large and mid caps, index-driven weights, cash paid quarterly, iShares running the desk.
Worth knowing
- Thinly traded. On a larger order, the spread can cost more than a full year of the 0.18% fee.
- Launched in 2023, so the record is short and assets sit well below the family flagship, ESGU.
- Plain broad-market ESG funds run cheaper: XVV at 0.08%, ESGV at 0.09%. The value tilt is what costs extra.
