Our read on FINY

ETF.net Research

DFINY never buys a bank stock. It sells put options tied to a 3x leveraged financials ETF, harvesting the richer premiums that leverage creates, and pays the income out weekly. The leverage sits in the options, not in the fund.

Stated mandate

FINY seeks to earn three times the income from selling options tied to the Financial Select Sector Index, primarily through options on leveraged ETFs designed for 3x daily exposure. It may also gain exposure to that leveraged ETF, with gains capped.

Why people hold it

  1. 01The income engine is options premium, not dividends. Options on a 3x leveraged financials ETF carry richer premiums than options on the plain sector index.graniteshares.com
  2. 02The fund itself isn't leveraged. It runs a put spread: sell a near-the-money put, buy a further out-of-the-money put, which defines how far the downside can run.graniteshares.comgraniteshares.com
  3. 03Sells weekly FLEX options and distributes weekly, so income arrives on a fast, fixed rhythm rather than once a quarter.graniteshares.com
  4. 04One job, clearly stated: financials exposure through options tied to the Financial Select Sector Index. No style drift, no mystery sleeve.graniteshares.com

Worth knowing

  1. 01Running costs sit near the top of the sector option-income group: 1.07% a year against a 0.35% median, the level charged by peers like XLVI and XLUI. It also trades thinly.
  2. 02Upside is capped by design. Any exposure to the leveraged ETF has its gains limited, so a financials rally shows up in the premium collected, not in the share price.graniteshares.com
  3. 03Payouts can include return of capital, meaning part of a distribution is your own money coming back and your cost basis drops accordingly.graniteshares.com
