Our read on IYRI
BMost sector options-income funds cover health care, utilities and energy. IYRI takes the real estate seat: US property stocks paired with calls written on the Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Capped Index, with income paid monthly.
The Fund seeks high monthly income while retaining potential for equity appreciation. It invests primarily in U.S. real estate-company securities and uses call options on ETFs tracking the Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Capped Index to generate income.
Why people hold it
- Fills the real estate slot in a shelf that mostly skips it. The highest-ranked peers here cover health care (XLVI), utilities (XLUI) and energy (XLEI), with no REIT sleeve among them.
- Real shares, not a synthetic wrapper: it owns US real estate company securities and writes calls on ETFs tracking the Dow Jones U.S. Real Estate Capped Index to generate the income.
- Pays monthly, and the stated mandate keeps room for the equity sleeve to appreciate rather than selling every scrap of upside for premium.
- Mid-size asset base and steady day-to-day volume, so retail-size orders don't require special handling.
Worth knowing
- At 0.68% a year, it runs about double the 0.35% charged by the State Street sector premium income funds (XLVI, XLUI, XLEI).
- The call writing funds the payout by trading away part of any sharp rally in the underlying real estate index. That is the deal being made.
- The issuer discloses that distributions can include return of capital, meaning part of a payout may be your own money coming back. The fund also only launched in January 2025.neosfunds.com
