Our read on IBTR

ETF.net Research

BOne dated rung on the iBonds Treasury ladder: an index of US Treasuries maturing in 2036, run as a defined-maturity strategy, for 0.07% a year. Bond-style maturity math in an ETF wrapper.

Stated mandate

The fund seeks to track an index of U.S. Treasury bonds maturing in 2036 and is designed to provide income and stability through a defined-maturity bond strategy.

Why people hold it

  1. 010.07% a year, below the typical target-maturity bond fund, and level with the cheapest Treasury rungs in the same lineup such as IBTJ.
  2. 02Government paper only. The mandate is US Treasuries maturing in 2036, so there is no corporate credit to underwrite.
  3. 03A dated end point, not a rolling one: it tracks the ICE 2036 Maturity US Treasury Index, so the term is fixed rather than a perpetual fund's ever-rolling duration.
  4. 04Income arrives on a quarterly schedule, and the cost line is one of the lighter ones among target-maturity bond funds.

Worth knowing

  1. 01This is a far rung. A 2036 maturity carries more interest-rate sensitivity than nearer-dated siblings like IBTJ (2029), so prices move more when yields move.
  2. 02Launched in 2026 and still small, it trades thinly, so spreads can run wider than on the ladder's long-established rungs.
  3. 03Short history means limited track record to examine, even though the underlying index rule is mechanical.
