Our read on KEMQ
FEmerging market growth without the state-owned banks and oil majors. KEMQ holds roughly 60 EM internet retail, payments and e-commerce names, with index rules capping each stock at 3% and each country at 40%.
The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Solactive Emerging Markets Consumer Technology Index.
Why people hold it
- Targets the consumer internet layer of emerging markets: internet retail, internet software and services, payment processing and e-commerce software, drawn from 26 eligible countries.kraneshares.com
- At each rebalance the index caps any single holding at 3% and any single country at 40%, so one mega-cap or one market cannot quietly become the whole trade.kraneshares.com
- One ticket for a focused basket of about 60 EM digital-economy names, instead of stitching together ADRs and local listings yourself. Trading since 2017.
Worth knowing
- 0.79% a year, against a 0.45% median for index ETFs in its peer group. That is the going rate for a niche EM theme, but it is a real gap.
- It has stayed a small, thinly traded fund, so bid-ask spreads and premiums or discounts to NAV are worth checking before trading.
- Narrow by design: one theme, emerging market currencies, local politics. Concentration cuts both ways, and distributions land at most once or twice a year.kraneshares.com
