Our read on PEX
DPrivate equity you can buy at 9:30 a.m. PEX tracks a global index of roughly 30 listed firms that write their own deal checks (buyout houses, BDCs), not funds of funds. The headline fee is mostly a pass-through of what those firms charge.
The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the performance of the LPX Direct Listed Private Equity Index.
Why people hold it
- Direct-only by design: the index screens for listed companies that mainly pursue their own private equity deals, so you own operators, not a wrapper around other people's funds.proshares.com
- Most of the sticker price is not ProShares'. The issuer puts the fund's net expense ratio at 0.60% after waivers, once the fees of the companies it holds are stripped out.proshares.com
- Running since 2013 on one narrow brief: at least 80% of assets in index components, and it has hugged that index closely.proshares.com
Worth knowing
- All-in cost including the underlying companies' fees sits near 3%, above the peer median. GPZ (0.40%) and GTPE (0.50%) charge far less for adjacent private-markets exposure.
- Small fund, light volume. Spreads can be wide, so limit orders matter more here than in a household-name ETF.
- About 30 holdings, heavy in BDCs, and a 3% ownership limit per company means the fund sometimes samples the index instead of matching it name for name.proshares.com
