Our read on PJP
BMost pharma ETFs just weight the biggest drugmakers. PJP instead runs a rules-based screen (price and earnings momentum, quality, management action, value) over US pharma names and rebuilds the roughly 30-stock lineup four times a year.
The fund seeks capital appreciation by investing primarily in pharmaceutical companies selected through the Dynamic Pharmaceutical Intellidex Index.
Why people hold it
- Stock-picking logic in an index wrapper: the Dynamic Pharmaceutical Intellidex ranks US pharma companies on price momentum, earnings momentum, quality, management action and value.invesco.com
- Rebalanced and reconstituted quarterly in February, May, August and November, so the roster refreshes on a set schedule rather than drifting with market cap.invesco.com
- Trading since 2005, one of the longest-running pharma funds on the shelf, and it has held a several-hundred-million-dollar asset base with quarterly distributions.
Worth knowing
- The active-style screen carries an active-style price: 0.57% a year, versus 0.35% for XPH, 0.36% for PPH and 0.37% for IHE.
- Thinly traded next to its peer group, so spreads can widen. Limit orders and avoiding the opening and closing minutes matter more here.
- Concentrated by design: roughly 30 US pharma stocks, non-diversified, with no biotech or device diversification to soften a single drug-pipeline shock.invesco.com
