Our read on SSXU

ETF.net Research

DMost international funds pick stocks. SSXU picks countries: an actively managed basket of unaffiliated foreign-market ETFs that leans into and away from regions against the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index. A top-down macro call in one ticker, at a premium price.

Stated mandate

The Fund seeks total return through income and capital appreciation. It actively invests mainly in unaffiliated international equity ETFs and adjusts geographic exposures relative to the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index.

Why people hold it

  1. 01Rather than pick foreign stocks, it dials country and region weights up and down versus the MSCI ACWI ex USA Index. Top-down macro allocation in a single ticker.
  2. 02Reach spans developed and emerging markets outside the US, with the tilts driven by the manager's own models. Not a benchmark hugger by design.
  3. 03The building blocks are unaffiliated, publicly traded international ETFs, so every underlying exposure is one you can look up on its own.

Worth knowing

  1. 01The 1.22% annual fee is several times what top-ranked peers charge (AVDE at 0.23%, DFIC at 0.22%), a hurdle the country calls have to clear.
  2. 02A small fund that trades lightly, so bid-ask spreads can run wider than in mainstream international ETFs.
  3. 03Launched in 2022, so the live record is short, and an actively rotated fund of funds can look very different from its benchmark in either direction.
