Our read on USSG
AThe ESG fund that dropped the label: MSCI renamed the index in 2025, methodology untouched. USSG still owns best-in-sector scorers covering half of each sector's market cap, for nine basis points.
The fund seeks to track the performance of the MSCI USA Selection Index before fees and expenses.
Why people hold it
- Nine basis points against a peer-group median of 0.45%, so the sector screen costs little more than a plain index wrapper.
- The index picks top ESG scorers within each GICS sector until it covers half that sector's float-adjusted cap, keeping sector weights near the broad US market.msci.cometf.dws.com
- Holds the index components in their index weights, and tracking has stayed tight to the benchmark since the 2019 launch.
- Built with Finnish pension investor Ilmarinen, which anchored the 2019 debut with roughly $850 million on day one.etf.com
Worth knowing
- Thinly traded next to the giant index funds in its cohort, so spreads and order type matter more at the moment you trade.
- Roughly 300 names covering about half of each sector's cap, so results can drift from a total-market fund in either direction.msci.com
- The 'Selection' label is new; the ESG rating screen under it is not. The 2025 rename changed the index name, not how it picks stocks.etf.dws.cometf.dws.com
