Our read on WISE
BMost AI funds are a market-cap ladder with the biggest chipmaker on top. WISE flips it: an index scores companies on how much of their business is genuinely generative AI, keeps the top 40, and weights them by that score. Purity over size, at 0.35% a year.
The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, an index of companies operating in artificial-intelligence-related industries. It uses passive indexing to follow the Solactive Generative Artificial Intelligence Index.
Why people hold it
- Charges 0.35% a year, roughly half the median fee among AI-theme ETFs. Cost is where this fund does its clearest work.sec.gov
- Weights come from theme relevance, not market cap: the higher a company's AI-exposure score, the bigger its slot. The index reconstitutes each February and August.sec.gov
- An algorithmic screen ranks the field, the index provider strikes names without real AI operations, and the top 40 scores make the book. Rules-based, not a manager's shortlist.sec.govthemesetfs.com
- Plain plumbing: full replication of the index, with at least 80% of assets in index names and their depositary receipts. No swaps, no synthetic wrapper.sec.gov
Worth knowing
- Small and thinly traded. Spreads can widen, limit orders earn their keep, and a modest asset base gives a fund less runway than the giants in the category.
- About 40 names, non-diversified, mixing small caps with mega-cap chipmakers. One theme, concentrated, and the ride reflects that.sec.gov
- On price alone it does not stand apart: XAIX matches the 0.35% fee and QTUM sits at 0.40%. The differentiator is the relevance-weighted index underneath.
