Our read on each fund
AGGA
BYLDB
In short
AGG Launched in 2003, one of the first funds to pack the entire U.S. investment-grade bond market into a single ticker: Treasuries, corporates and mortgage bonds, three basis points a year, cash paid monthly.
BYLD Most core bond funds buy the whole market and take whatever yield falls out. BYLD tracks an index built from other iShares bond funds, tilted toward the higher-income corners of US fixed income, and pays monthly.
Stated mandate
AGG The fund seeks to track the Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond Index, providing broad exposure to the total U.S. investment-grade bond market.
BYLD The fund seeks to track the Morningstar U.S. Bond Market Yield-Optimized Index, which targets high-yielding U.S. fixed-income securities and provides diversified bond exposure.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
