PEPSBParametric Equity Plus ETF

In short

APRJ Most income ETFs sell calls and let the payout float with volatility. APRJ sets its distribution rate up front for each outcome period, pays quarterly, and puts a 30% barrier between S&P 500 price losses and the fund's value.

PEPS Active management at index-fund pricing. PEPS holds a U.S. large-cap base, then writes S&P 500 calls against offsetting long exposure: a beta-neutral overlay built to add return rather than swap upside for income.

Stated mandate

APRJ The fund seeks to provide a defined distribution rate over each outcome period, while limiting exposure to S&P 500 Price Return Index losses up to a 30% barrier; losses beyond that barrier reduce the fund's value.

PEPS The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It is actively managed, using a U.S. large-cap equity base and beta-neutral call overwriting on the S&P 500 with offsetting long exposure to seek incremental total return.

Why people hold it

  • APRJ The income is defined, not discovered: a target rate set at the start of each outcome period, paid quarterly, so the schedule is known before you own it.
  • The 30% barrier is a deep line by design. S&P 500 price losses up to it don't reduce the fund's value; the protection is written into the outcome period, not hoped for.
  • Payout comes from a defined-outcome options contract on the index rather than month-to-month call premiums, so it isn't set by whatever volatility happens to pay that quarter.
  • PEPS 0.10% is index-fund pricing for an actively managed strategy. Even the cheap, well-regarded active peers cost more: DFAU at 0.12%, FELC at 0.18%.
  • Not a covered-call fund. The sold S&P 500 calls are paired with offsetting long exposure, so the overlay seeks incremental total return instead of capping upside.
  • Ordinary 1940 Act ETF wrapper, U.S. large-cap equity, distributions paid quarterly. The complexity lives in the overlay, not the tax paperwork.
  • Cost is the standout: the typical active U.S. equity ETF in this group charges several times what PEPS does, and fee drag is the one input you know in advance.

Worth knowing

  • APRJ At 0.79%, it runs above the 0.60% median for S&P 500 income funds, and cheaper peers exist (IVVW at 0.25%, RSPA at 0.32%, BALI at 0.35%).
  • A barrier is a cliff, not a cushion: once index losses pass 30%, the fund's value takes the hit, and the reference is a price index, so dividends aren't in the math.
  • Part of the distribution can be return of capital (your own money back), and the fund is small and lightly traded, so limit orders earn their keep.
  • PEPS Launched in November 2024. The overlay has not yet run through a full market cycle, so there is limited history to judge it on.
  • A small, thinly traded fund. Bid-ask spreads can run wider than a mega-cap index ETF's, which shows up most on larger orders.
  • The options leg adds moving parts: short index calls lose value in a sharp rally, and the offsetting long exposure is what has to make that back.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
