AUMIBThemes Gold Miners ETF

GOAUCU.S. Global GO GOLD and Precious Metal Miners ETF

In short

AUMI Gold miners with the blends stripped out. AUMI tracks an index of roughly 30 large miners that must earn at least 90% of revenue from gold, and it charges less than the typical fund in its group.

GOAU Most gold-miner funds just own the diggers. GOAU's index also makes room for royalty and streaming companies, the ones that collect a cut of production without running the mine, in a concentrated lineup of about 30 names.

Stated mandate

AUMI The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, an index of companies active in the gold mining industry. It uses a passive/indexing approach to pursue that objective.

GOAU The fund tracks the U.S. Global Go Gold and Precious Metal Miners Index, which targets globally listed precious-metals companies primarily engaged in mining, production, royalties, or production streams.

Why people hold it

  • AUMI The "pure" in the index name is a rule: members must generate at least 90% of revenue from gold mining, so copper-and-gold conglomerates and diversified diggers stay out.solactive.comthemesetfs.com
  • A 0.35% fee undercuts the peer-group median and the category's household names, VanEck's GDX (0.51%) and iShares' RING (0.39%).
  • Roughly 30 names, free-float weighted, rebuilt on a set schedule: a concentrated, rules-based way to own the diggers rather than the metal.solactive.com
  • GOAU The mandate reaches past pure miners: royalty and production-stream companies sit alongside producers, so the basket includes the toll-collectors of the gold business.
  • About 30 holdings, so the screens actually show up in the portfolio instead of getting diluted into a whole-sector basket.
  • Does what the label says, staying closely aligned with the U.S. Global Go Gold and Precious Metal Miners Index it is built to track.
  • Live since 2017, so there is a real multi-year record behind it rather than a fresh launch and a backtest.

Worth knowing

  • AUMI Thinly traded and small next to the group's giants, so bid-ask spreads can be wider and big orders can push the price.
  • Concentrated by design and non-diversified: about 30 miners, one commodity, plus mine-level risks like costs, permits and politics.themesetfs.com
  • Launched in December 2023, so the live track record is short, and cash comes back once or twice a year rather than monthly.
  • GOAU At 0.60% a year it runs above the peer-group median, and broader options like RING (0.39%) and GDX (0.51%) charge less for miner exposure.
  • Thinly traded with a modest asset base, so trading costs can run wider than at the household-name miner funds.
  • Concentration cuts both ways: with roughly 30 miners, one company's news lands harder here than in a sprawling sector index.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
