BBIBAJPMorgan BetaBuilders U.S. Treasury Bond 3-10 Year ETF

XFIVABondBloxx Bloomberg Five Year Target Duration US Treasury ETF

In short

BBIB A plain ladder of 3-to-10-year Treasuries at four basis points. JPMorgan showed up late to this corner of the market and priced its way in, undercutting most of the intermediate Treasury shelf while hugging its index.

XFIV Most "intermediate" Treasury funds sort bonds by maturity and let their interest-rate sensitivity wander. XFIV pins it down: two duration buckets, blended every month, to hold the portfolio near the five-year point on the curve.

Stated mandate

BBIB The fund is designed to provide current income and to closely track the investment results of the ICE U.S. Treasury 3-10 Year benchmark.

XFIV The Fund seeks to track an index of U.S. Treasury securities with duration between 4 and 6 years.

Why people hold it

  • BBIB Charges 0.04% a year, well below the typical intermediate Treasury fund and only a hair off the cheapest names in the group (SPTI, SCHR).
  • Built to track the ICE U.S. Treasury 3-10 Year index and stays close to it, one of the tightest implementations in its peer group.jpmorgan.com
  • Straight government paper, roughly 80 issues, no credit sleeve, and income paid monthly.
  • XFIV Duration is the product, not a byproduct. The index blends two buckets of 4-to-6 year Treasuries and rebalances monthly to hold an average duration near five years.sec.gov
  • 0.05% a year, a third of the typical fee among intermediate Treasury funds.
  • Nothing to underwrite but Uncle Sam. Government paper only, no credit or mortgage detours, and it holds up as one of the stronger implementations in its peer group.
  • Pays monthly, part of a 2022 BondBloxx suite spanning eight duration targets from six months to twenty years.prnewswire.com

Worth knowing

  • BBIB Thinly traded next to the category's giants, so spreads can run wider and bigger orders take more care.
  • A 2023 launch with a modest asset base, so the record here is short compared with decade-old rivals.
  • Intermediate duration cuts both ways: prices move opposite yields, more than cash-like funds and less than long bonds.
  • XFIV Cheap, not the floor: SPTI and SCHR charge 0.03% for broad intermediate Treasury exposure.
  • Five years of duration cuts both ways: roughly a 5% price move for every 1 point shift in rates, in either direction.
  • Moderately traded rather than a volume giant, and the duration target is only reset at each monthly rebalance, so it can drift in between.sec.gov

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
