Our read on each fund
HYLBA
SHYGA
In short
HYLB Broad-market junk bonds at index-fund pricing: 0.05% a year, a fraction of what the typical high-yield bond ETF charges, spread across roughly 1,300 issues. Running since 2016, it pays monthly.
SHYG High yield without the long-bond whiplash. SHYG owns only junk bonds maturing inside five years, keeping interest-rate sensitivity low while the credit exposure does the work. iShares has run it since 2013.
Stated mandate
HYLB The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the Solactive USD High Yield Corporates Total Market Index. It uses a passive representative-sampling indexing approach.
SHYG The fund seeks to track an index of short-term, U.S. dollar-denominated high-yield corporate bonds, providing short-duration exposure intended to pursue income while managing interest-rate risk.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
