ONEYAState Street SPDR Russell 1000 Yield Focus ETF

SCHDASchwab U.S. Dividend Equity ETF

In short

ONEY A yield screen with guardrails. ONEY hunts dividend payers across the Russell 1000, but the index weighs quality and value alongside yield, so payout size is not the only vote. About 300 large caps, quarterly distributions, 0.20% a year.

SCHD The dividend fund that checks the balance sheet before it checks the yield. SCHD only considers companies with 10 straight years of payouts, then ranks the survivors on cash flow, return on equity and dividend growth. Quality gate first, income second, at six basis points.

Stated mandate

ONEY The fund seeks to provide returns that generally correspond to the Russell 1000 Yield Focused Factor Index before fees and expenses.

SCHD The fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the total return of the Dow Jones U.S. Dividend 100TM Index.

Why people hold it

  • ONEY The index ranks on yield but scores quality and value too, so a fat payout alone doesn't buy a stock its way in.ssga.com
  • 0.20% a year, comfortably under the typical fee in its dividend-screen peer group.
  • Roughly 300 large-cap US stocks, and the fund has hugged its benchmark closely, which is the entire job of an index product.
  • Running since 2015 with State Street's index shop behind it, and it pays quarterly. One of the stronger builds in its dividend-screen cohort.
  • SCHD Charges 0.06% a year, near the floor for US equity ETFs and a fraction of what the typical dividend-screen fund costs.schwabassetmanagement.com
  • The rulebook is strict: 10 consecutive years of dividends to qualify, then a composite rank on cash-flow-to-total-debt, return on equity, yield and five-year dividend growth.spglobal.com
  • Index rules cap any single stock at 4.5% and any sector at 25%, so one hot name cannot quietly become the whole income stream.spglobal.com
  • Running since 2011 and now among the largest, most heavily traded dividend ETFs, with tracking that stays very close to its index.

Worth knowing

  • ONEY Volume is light and the asset base is mid-sized, so bid/ask spreads can be wider than the category's household names.
  • Cheaper shelf-mates exist: SCHD, VIG and DGRO all run their dividend screens for single-digit basis points.
  • Quality and value tilts mean the portfolio can look quite different from the plain Russell 1000 in any given stretch.
  • SCHD Roughly 100 names, every one a long-time dividend payer. The fast-growing non-payers that drive much of the US market are not eligible, by design.spglobal.com
  • The yield and quality screens tilt it toward mature, cash-generating sectors, so it looks nothing like a total-market fund. Distributions land quarterly, not monthly.spglobal.com
  • Not the absolute cheapest shelf item: VIG runs 0.04% and DIVB 0.05%, though both screen for dividends differently.

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
