PEPSBParametric Equity Plus ETF

In short

PBP A 2007-vintage covered-call fund on the S&P 500: hold the index, sell calls against it, pay the premium out monthly. The plain-vanilla version of the trade, priced well under the typical options-income fund.

PEPS Active management at index-fund pricing. PEPS holds a U.S. large-cap base, then writes S&P 500 calls against offsetting long exposure: a beta-neutral overlay built to add return rather than swap upside for income.

Stated mandate

PBP The fund uses a total-return buy-write approach on the S&P 500. It maintains a long position indexed to the S&P 500 and uses a covered-call strategy.

PEPS The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation. It is actively managed, using a U.S. large-cap equity base and beta-neutral call overwriting on the S&P 500 with offsetting long exposure to seek incremental total return.

Why people hold it

  • PBP Charges 0.29%, under half the 0.60% median for S&P 500 options-income funds. XYLD runs a similar covered-call playbook at 0.60%.
  • Trading since 2007, so its record spans the financial crisis and everything after. Long history for an options-income ETF.
  • Plain mechanics: roughly 500 stocks tracking the S&P 500, calls written against that position, premium paid out monthly.invesco.com
  • Sits among the stronger implementations in a crowded field of S&P 500 income funds.
  • PEPS 0.10% is index-fund pricing for an actively managed strategy. Even the cheap, well-regarded active peers cost more: DFAU at 0.12%, FELC at 0.18%.
  • Not a covered-call fund. The sold S&P 500 calls are paired with offsetting long exposure, so the overlay seeks incremental total return instead of capping upside.
  • Ordinary 1940 Act ETF wrapper, U.S. large-cap equity, distributions paid quarterly. The complexity lives in the overlay, not the tax paperwork.
  • Cost is the standout: the typical active U.S. equity ETF in this group charges several times what PEPS does, and fee drag is the one input you know in advance.

Worth knowing

  • PBP Covered calls trade upside for premium. When the S&P 500 runs hard, the written calls hand back part of that move.invesco.com
  • Thinly traded next to the headline names in the category, which can mean wider bid-ask spreads.
  • No longer the cheapest seat: IVVW writes calls on the same index for 0.25%.
  • PEPS Launched in November 2024. The overlay has not yet run through a full market cycle, so there is limited history to judge it on.
  • A small, thinly traded fund. Bid-ask spreads can run wider than a mega-cap index ETF's, which shows up most on larger orders.
  • The options leg adds moving parts: short index calls lose value in a sharp rally, and the offsetting long exposure is what has to make that back.

How we measure overlap

Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
