Our read on each fund
SYLDD
VIGA
In short
SYLD Most dividend funds count one thing: the payout. SYLD counts every way a company hands cash back, dividends, buybacks and debt paydown, in an active, roughly 100-stock US portfolio running since 2013.
VIG VIG buys dividend growth, not fat yields: about 300 US companies with a record of raising their payouts, tracked for 0.04% a year. Running since 2006 and now north of $100 billion, it is the plain-vanilla anchor of the dividend-screen aisle.
Stated mandate
SYLD The fund seeks income and capital appreciation through an actively managed portfolio of U.S.-based publicly listed companies with high shareholder yield, measured through dividends, buybacks and debt paydowns.
VIG The fund seeks to track the S&P U.S. Dividend Growers Index, which represents common stocks of companies with a record of increasing dividends over time.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
