Our read on EPS
ALarge-cap core with a profit filter. Roughly 500 U.S. companies, all of them earnings generators, tracked since 2007 for 0.08% a year. Same plumbing as a plain index fund, with a screen most of them skip.
The fund seeks to track earnings-generating large-cap companies in the U.S. equity market.
Why people hold it
- The screen is the whole point: the index holds large U.S. companies that actually generate earnings, so unprofitable names do not ride in on market cap alone.wisdomtree.com
- 0.08% a year, under the median for its large-cap peer group, and it still spreads across roughly 500 stocks.
- Running since 2007 and now a multi-billion-dollar fund, it has tracked its index tightly and ranks in the top quartile of its large-cap cohort.
- Pays out quarterly, the standard cadence for a core equity holding.
Worth knowing
- It trades thinly for the category, so bid-ask spreads can run wider than the heavily traded core names in the group.
- Cheaper shelf-mates exist: SCHX and VV charge 0.03%, BKLC charges nothing. The earnings screen is what the extra basis points buy.
- Screening on earnings means the portfolio can look different from a plain cap-weighted large-cap index, and its results will drift from that benchmark in both directions.

EPS Risk
- 12.4%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- 1.24
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.
- −23.6%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.
- 0.96
How it’s calculated: beta
The beta figure is supplied by FMP. The comparison index depends on the fund’s broad asset class.
