Our read on VONE
AThe Russell 1000 is the standard-issue US large-cap benchmark, and VONE is the low-fee door into it: about 1,000 names for 0.06%, well under half what the other big fund tracking the same index charges.
The fund seeks to track the performance of the Russell 1000 Index.
Why people hold it
- Same declared index as the pricier incumbent at 0.15%, for 0.06%. That is under half the fee, and comfortably below the 0.14% the typical large-cap tracker charges.
- Plain plumbing: about 1,000 US large caps, no tilts or screens. The Russell lineup is rebuilt on a published calendar, now twice a year, so risers enter on schedule.lseg.com
- Running since 2010 and now a multi-billion-dollar fund, it sits in the top quartile of its large-cap peer group and pays quarterly.
Worth knowing
- A thousand names sounds sweeping, but the sleeve is US-only and large-cap-only. No small caps, no international exposure.
- Cheap, not cheapest. SCHX and VV run 0.03% and BKLC runs 0.00%, though each tracks a different large-cap index rather than the Russell 1000.
- Volume is moderate rather than hub-like, so larger orders can meet thinner depth than in the category's busiest tickers.
