Our read on QTEC
BQTEC fishes in one pond: the technology names inside the Nasdaq-100, about 40 of them. Running since 2006, it is a narrower, Nasdaq-flavored cut of tech than the giant whole-sector funds.
The fund seeks to replicate, before fees and expenses, the price and yield performance of the Nasdaq-100 Technology Sector Index.
Why people hold it
- About 40 tech names drawn from the Nasdaq-100 rather than the full sector roster. Concentrated on purpose, so individual holdings actually move the needle.
- Tracks its index closely and trades with enough activity for routine orders, so you get the Nasdaq tech screen rather than a tracking science project.
- Live since 2006, now a multi-billion-dollar fund, and sitting in the upper half of a crowded broad-tech ETF field. Not a fresh-launch experiment.
Worth knowing
- 0.55% a year, above the 0.40% typical for broad tech ETFs and well above XLK and FTEC at 0.08%. That is the toll for the narrower Nasdaq screen.
- Roughly 40 stocks from a single index means single names and tech sentiment swing this harder than a several-hundred-name sector fund.
- Distributions land only once or twice a year, so this reads as a growth-tilted equity holding, not an income stream.

QTEC Risk
- 26.0%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- 0.89
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.
- −45.5%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.
- 1.43
How it’s calculated: beta
The beta figure is supplied by FMP. The comparison index depends on the fund’s broad asset class.
