Our read on SHOC
BSHOC keeps the chip trade domestic and compact: roughly 30 U.S.-listed semiconductor names from Solactive's capped index, with position limits so one megacap can't run the whole show. Strive launched it in 2022.
The Fund seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the total return of an index composed of U.S.-listed equities in the semiconductor sector. Its specified index is the Solactive United States Semiconductors 30 Capped Index.
Why people hold it
- Domestic by design. The index is built from U.S.-listed semiconductor equities, so this is a stateside silicon basket rather than a global chip fund.
- The capped index limits how large any single name can grow inside a roughly 30-stock portfolio, spreading weight across more of the chip complex than a top-heavy build.
- Rules over hunches: it tracks a named Solactive index, and the sector, geography and objective are spelled out in the fund's own registration statement.
Worth knowing
- Fee math is the trade-off: 0.40% a year sits above the semiconductor group's median and above cheap index rivals like CHPS (0.15%) and SOXQ (0.19%).
- It trades lighter than the category's household names such as SMH and SOXX, so bid-ask spreads can run wider and size takes more care to work.
- Concentration cuts both ways. About 30 stocks in one cyclical industry means this rides the chip cycle rather than smoothing it out.

SHOC Risk
- 33.5%
How it’s calculated: standard deviation
The sample standard deviation of monthly total returns, multiplied by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Total returns include reinvested distributions.
- 1.13
How it’s calculated: Sharpe ratio
Subtract each month’s Treasury-bill return from the fund’s monthly total return.
Divide the average of those excess returns by their sample standard deviation, then multiply by the square root of 12.
Uses up to 36 complete months, with at least 12 required. Each month uses the Treasury yield quoted at the end of the previous month.
- −37.5%
How it’s calculated: maximum drawdown
The largest percentage decline from an earlier peak, using total returns with reinvested distributions.
Uses up to five years through the last close, with at least 12 months required.
- 1.95
How it’s calculated: beta
The beta figure is supplied by FMP. The comparison index depends on the fund’s broad asset class.
