Our read on SPXT
BThe S&P 500 with its single biggest sector cut out. SPXT tracks an S&P index that drops every company GICS files under information technology (software, hardware, semis) and keeps the other roughly 400.
SPXT provides exposure to the large-cap S&P 500 while excluding companies classified in the information technology sector.
Why people hold it
- Charges 0.09% a year, under the median for its large-cap peer group, which is cheap for a fund with a rulebook this specific.
- One rule, applied by index committee, not manager hunch: own the S&P 500, skip the info tech sector, weight the rest by market cap.spglobal.comproshares.com
- Sticks close to the S&P 500 Ex-Information Technology Index it follows, and sits in the upper half of its large-cap cohort. Pays quarterly.
- Live since 2015, part of the ProShares ex-sector lineup that also carves out energy, financials and health care.proshares.com
Worth knowing
- "Ex-tech" is a GICS label, not a vibe. Names like Meta sit outside the info tech sector, so the fund still holds stocks most people call tech.spglobal.com
- Removing the S&P 500's largest sector means results drift from the plain index in both directions.en.wikipedia.org
- Thinly traded next to the giant core S&P funds, so bid-ask spreads can be wider.
