GUSEAGoldman Sachs Enhanced U.S. Equity ETF

In short

BGRO BlackRock's active stock-pickers, unbundled: roughly 30 US large-cap growth names in one ticker instead of a sprawling index. A 2024 arrival that swaps breadth for a concentrated bet on earnings power.

GUSE Goldman's fundamental stock pickers hunting long-term growth in US companies, for 0.30% a year. The strategy dates to 2008 and charges well under the typical active US growth fund.

Stated mandate

BGRO The Fund seeks long-term capital appreciation through active exposure to U.S. large-cap growth equities, using a high-conviction, fundamentally driven approach focused on companies with strong growth characteristics and earnings power.

GUSE The Fund seeks long-term growth of capital by investing in companies that the Investment Adviser believes are positioned for long-term growth.

Why people hold it

  • BGRO Genuinely concentrated. At roughly 30 names, individual picks actually move the fund. This is the high-conviction mutual-fund model in an ETF wrapper, not an index fund wearing an active label.
  • The mandate is narrow and written down: US large-cap growth, chosen on fundamentals and earnings power. No drift into small caps or overseas names to chase a hot streak.ishares.com
  • 0.55% a year buys active management inside a plain 1940 Act ETF, with the daily transparency and intraday tradability the wrapper requires. Cheap by legacy active-fund standards.
  • GUSE Charges 0.30% a year, against a 0.54% median for its active US growth cohort. Cheap, for stock picking.
  • Actively run with no index to shadow. Managers hold companies they judge positioned for long-term growth, so the portfolio can look different from a large-cap benchmark.
  • Inception dates to 2008, so the strategy has run through multiple market cycles, not one long rally.
  • One of the stronger implementations in a crowded field of active US growth funds.

Worth knowing

  • BGRO A small, thinly traded fund. Bid-ask spreads run wider than the megacap growth giants, which matters more for short holding periods than long ones.
  • Launched in 2024, so the record is short. And with about 30 holdings, the ride is inherently lumpier than a broad growth index.
  • Cheaper ways to buy large-cap growth exist: FELG charges 0.18% and JUSA 0.12%. The fee gap is what you pay for concentration instead of index-hugging.
  • GUSE Trades thinly next to the category's heavyweights. Spreads can be wider, which bites most on large or hurried orders.
  • Two peers in the same top tier undercut it on fee: JUSA at 0.12% and FELG at 0.18%. Price is not where this one stands out.
  • Distributions land once or twice a year, not monthly. Growth of capital is the stated goal, not an income stream.
