Our read on each fund
EQLB
EQWLB
In short
EQL Every equal-weight fund levels something. EQL levels sectors: eleven U.S. economic sectors, each handed an equal slice, so no single sector sets the agenda. Running since 2009 at 0.19% a year.
EQWL Equal weight, but blue chips only. EQWL spreads money evenly across the roughly 100 mega caps of the S&P 100, so the largest name counts about as much as the hundredth. Running since 2006, before equal weight was fashionable.
Stated mandate
EQL EQL passively seeks to track, before fees and expenses, the VettaFi Modelist Equal Weight Sector 500 Index. The index equally weights eleven U.S. economic sectors and float-adjusts stocks within each sector.
EQWL The fund seeks to provide exposure to the S&P 100 through an index that gives its constituent securities equal weight, investing at least 90% of assets in index components.

How we measure overlap
Each holding counts at its smaller weight in the two funds, summed over the full Holdings. Sector, country and asset class use the same rule on each fund’s split. Cash, FX and derivative lines stay out of the counts. Two bond funds get no overlap figure.
